Background
The Forgeron winemaking philosophy remains unchanged since 2001 when our founding winemaker opened Forgeron Cellars in Walla Walla. The principles learned in Burgundy, continue to apply. We uncover the best vineyard sites for our favorite varietals grown in the AVAs of the Columbia Valley, then gently guide the winemaking process to deliver wines that fully expressthe beauty, complexity, and age-worthiness the region has to offer. At Forgeron, we are driven by what’s happening in the vineyards and work to find the best sites for each of our wines; then, working in small-lots, we put our skills to work with restraint, to respect the fruit's identity through winemaking. Because great winemaking begins in the vineyard, we partner with the best, sustainable-focused growers and sites in the AVA's of Eastern Washington's vast Columbia Valley. Forgeron, the French word for "Blacksmith," offers tasting and tours of our full production winery (est. 2001) in downtown Walla Walla where Blacksmiths once skillfully and by hand, crafted iron into art.
Tasting Notes
Notes of bing cherry, white pepper, and sage dominate the nose of this wine, leading to a burst of ripe red fruits, Christmas spice, and expansive and refreshing acidity. This wine finish with super fine but defined tannins and a long lasting, savory finish. Deep Ruby. Tree fruit, white pepper, earthy. Light texture, full mouth-full expanding into deep spice notes. Roasted pears, spinach salad with caramelized walnuts.
