Background
Scarpetta is a Friulian inspired brand created by Master Sommelier Bobby Stuckey and former French Laundry Chef Lachlan Patterson. Their passion for all things Friuli inspired the creation of their own Friulian brand called Scarpetta in 2007 and they starting by selling their wine at Frasca (their restaurant) located in Boulder Colorado. All their fruit is grown organically or sustainable and is sourced from well-established vineyards. Monferrato is the birthplace for Barbera. While its made in other spots in Piedmont, it is here where Barbera shows the balance of fruit and acidity.
Tasting Notes
The grapes are fermented in stainless steel and aged 12 months in neutral French oak. Resulting in a wine that shows fruit and earth without being marked by wood. Bright plum red. Lifted aromas of crushed blueberries and blackberries, black plums, porcini mushrooms and dried leaves exude from the glass. The leads to a palate marked by moderate tannin's but the hallmark bright acid driving the wine through a balance, generous finish.
